How It Works

Business VoIP Phone Service

When you order our service, you will get a new phone number from over 7,000 available areas or transfer your existing number.

We'll ship you a PBX-In-A-Box Phone Adapter. When you receive it, simply plug it into your broadband internet connection and plug your normal telephones into it.

That simple! Use your phone just like you normally would. When you place calls, the adapter sends the calls out through your internet connection to the PBX-In-A-Box network instead of the regular phone network.

Toll Free Numbers

Order a Toll Free Number service.

When your account is activated, login to your control panel and set the destination number. The destination number can be any existing phone number in the US/Canada or a SIP address.

That simple! When someone calls your new toll-free number, the calls will forward to your destination number or phone.

Forwarded Local Numbers

Order a Local Number from an area you desire.

When your account is activated, login to your control panel and set the destination number. The destination number can be any existing phone number in the US/Canada or a SIP address.

That simple! When someone calls your new local number, the calls will forward to your destination number or phone.

FAX Numbers

When you order service, you select a toll-free fax number.

When your account is activated, login to your control panel and set the destination e-mail address.

That simple! When someone calls your new local number, the calls will forward to your destination number or phone.

Requirements to use PBX-In-A-Box Voice over Internet Protocol:

A high-speed Internet connection - broadband, like cable or DSL.

A touchtone phone - any touchtone phone will do.

A PBX-In-A-Box phone adapter - the device that connects your high-speed Internet to your phone

How VoIP Works: PBX-In-A-Box uses the Internet to power your phone:

PBX-In-A-Box routes your phone calls over the Internet using Voice over Internet Protocol, rather than telephone lines. But even though your phone uses the Internet, it has nothing to do with your computer. In fact, your computer doesn't have to be on to use PBX-In-A-Box. The people you call don't need to have PBX-In-A-Box or the Internet to get your call - just a phone. And when someone calls you, your phone rings as usual.

Additional Services

Virtual Numbers

You're able to add additional phone numbers to your account from any cities/ratecenters that we offer service in. Just like domain parking, these numbers simply point to your main account. This is especially useful if you want to have a presence in another city.

An example would be if you lived in Houston and wanted a Miami phone number. Miami locals, or anyone, could call this virtual number, and the calls would be forwarded to your PBX-In-A-Box number.

The Virtual Number is for inbound calls only - allowing the party in "Miami" to call the virtual number at a local rate, rather than paying long distance rates. You cannot make outbound calls on the Virtual Number.

Additional local numbers can be added for $3.95 Monthly.

FAX Number

PBX-In-A-Box provides fax services for customers who wish to get a dedicated fax number. Any faxes sent to your dedicated fax number will be emailed to you as a .PDF file. You can change the the fax destination email address at anytime via your vPanel.

Note: At this time, Fax to E-Mail service provided by PBX-In-A-Box is not offered as a stand-alone option. You must first acquire a Residential or Business Account before ordering a fax number (accessible through the vPanel upon ordering).

Cloned Line

A 2nd line cloned is not another telephone number. The device that you receive from us has two phone ports in it. By default, the second port is a clone of the first port. It is essentially two lines in one.

If you receive a call on your number, both phone ports will ring. You can answer the call from either port.

An example scenario: You are talking on your first line. You're expecting an important call.

You have two phones hooked up to your device.

A cordless phone which you rarely see is connected to Phone Port 1. A desk phone is connected to Phone Port 2.

The first port is in use because you are on the line. When you receive a call, the first port will hear the normal call waiting tone. The second port will ring.

You can pick up the call on the second port.

The two ports operate independently of each other. If one is in use, the other can be used for incoming or outgoing calls.

The 2nd line cloned must be at the same location. It can not be used at another location.
